Electrical Design Engineer - Low & Medium Voltage Systems
Job Description
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Design Engineer with proven experience in the design of Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) electrical systems, including specialized airport electrical systems. The role involves supporting multidisciplinary projects in UAE and Saudi Arabia, from concept to IFC stage, in compliance with local regulations, international standards, and airport-specific requirements (ICAO, IES, GACA, etc.).
Key Responsabilities
Medium Voltage Power Systems (up to 20kV):
- Perform load analysis and substation sizing.
- Design ring-fed MV substation schemes, single line diagrams, and redundant power systems.
- Define and specify RMUs, MV switchgears, MV circuit breakers, and power transformers.
- Design grounding and bonding systems for substations and technical buildings.
- Integrate protection relays and ensure coordination and selectivity.
- Ensure compliance with local utility regulations (DEWA, SEWA, SEC, ADDC).
- Define Right of Way (ROW) and coordinate with utility stakeholders.
Low Voltage Power Systems:
- Load assessments, panel sizing, and electrical distribution diagrams.
- Design of earthing systems and lightning protection.
- Design and specification of LV panels, MCCs, UPS systems, capacitor banks, generators.
- Cable routing design: conduits, trays, duct banks, etc.
Lighting Systems:
- Perform lighting calculations and lux level simulations.
- Selection of luminaires (indoor, outdoor, architectural).
- Design of emergency lighting systems: autonomous, centralized battery systems.
Airport Electrical Systems (AFL – Airfield Ground Lighting):
- Understanding of airfield lighting systems
- Specification and layout of regulator rooms, transformer pits, and duct systems for airfield circuits.
- Design of electrical systems to support constant current regulators (CCRs), AFL control systems.
- Coordination with airside stakeholders and compliance with airport operator standards (e.g., GACA, GACA/Airside).
Project Coordination and Documentation
- Work collaboratively with architecture, MEP, and civil teams.
- Prepare key project documents: Design Basis Reports, BoQs, MTOs, technical specifications, cost estimates, and drawing lists.
- Review and lead development of electrical drawings with CAD/BIM teams.
- Deliverables management across design stages: Concept, Schematic, DD (30%, 60%, 90%), IFC.
- Participate in client and authority reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s is a plus).
- 5+ years experience in LV/MV design and infrastructure/aviation projects.
- Strong knowledge of Middle East electrical and airport regulations.
- Proficient in English (Arabic is an advantage).
- Solid understanding of multidisciplinary project coordination and airport-specific systems.
- Experience with airport project design and coordination with airport authorities.
- Familiarity with NOC processes with utilities and airport operators.
- Experience in tendering, technical submittals, and construction support.
- Capable of leading client and contractor meetings.
- Willingness to travel across the region for data collection and stakeholder coordination.
- Knowladge in electrical calculations, cable sizing, voltage drop, and short-circuit analysis.
- Software proficiency:
- ETAP, CANECO BT, Ecodial for electrical analysis.
- Dialux for lighting simulation.
- AutoCAD, Autodesk MEP, Revit and BIM coordination.
- MS Office Suite for reporting and documentation.
